UNDER 16s


Our U16 Programme runs from the beginning of Term 2 with trials taking place throughout the Term. Players born on or after January 1st 2009 are eligible to play. 

We offer a range of teams for all different abilities and experience.

Players will be required to attend all trial sessions and trainings thereafter to be considered and be a part of the training and travelling squad.

Fees for 2025 season

  • Trial Fee: A $20 trial fee is required upon registration 

  • Club registration fees: $450

  • NZWP Fee: Players must also register through New Zealand Water Polo (NZWP), with an additional fee payable before competing. $35.

  • Tournament Costs: Average from $300 to $800 depending on the entry fee.


Uniform Sales

Once selected into the squad, information will be released about a “Registration Night” where squad members are to place their order for uniform. We bulk order uniform from overseas so players and parents will be required to attend this evening to try on and order kit for the season. 

Players must have the club togs and uniform to play in any tournaments.

Training Requirements

  • We will endeavour to accommodate all players into an U16 team however dependant on numbers some players may not be named in an U16 team after the completion of the Trials.
  • Teams will be training multiple times a week throughout the term, with expectations on extra training in their own time. 
  • We expect that selected young athletes commit to their team and attend all trainings. If multiple trainings are missed it will be up to coaching staff to whether selected individual remains in that squad. 
  • Please know we will do our upmost to assist our U16 players enjoy their season with HBWP. 

Information About U16’s with HBWP

  • Playing water polo at this age and learning to play sport with other young athletes the same age
  • Learning how to play in an advanced and competitive team environment with no pressure 
  • Coaches who are passionate about teaching the young athletes to enjoy the game
  • Being placed in teams that will enhance the young athletes game throughout the season
  • Have the opportunity to meet lots of young athletes your own age and play sport with them
  • Ability and opportunities to travel, learn, develop and represent the region. 
  • Commit to trainings with the team and coach throughout the season
